Servaali
Challenge
As the lead design consultant, I spearheaded a 6-month project to develop a seamlessly integrated mobile ordering system for Servaali. Our mission was to empower restaurant and bar managers with a user-friendly platform that optimizes stock management, elevates the purchase order size, boosts order frequency, and enhances brand awareness.
The project centred around four core business objectives:
- Elevate the average purchase order size by simplifying the ordering experience.
- Boost order frequency and encourage repeat orders to cultivate customer loyalty.
- Streamline internal processes through automated order processing, ensuring efficiency.
- Enhance brand awareness among customers and competitors, positioning Servaali as an industry leader.
Our mission was to facilitate, streamline, and refine the existing manual order process, crafting a faster and smoother experience for all stakeholders involved. Embark on this compelling case study as we unveil the remarkable outcomes achieved through strategic design and seamless integration.
Solution
Servaali's vision for a revolutionary ordering tool began with insightful interviews and the creation of an initial prototype. Lean workshops aligned stakeholder visions, aiming for an interim solution that laid the groundwork for future growth.
Understanding the end user, I crafted a mobile site addressing needs and Momentin Group branding. Swift prototyping validated the version with customers, meeting expectations and maintaining consistency.
Establishing a robust platform for complex business logic was a challenge. Collaboration with a full-stack engineer resulted in a tailored solution. Iterative development addressed emerging challenges effectively.
Result
With scalability and error reduction in mind, we created a unique custom microservices backend architecture. Tailored to the business case and client requirements, each independent service facilitated swift and error-free operations.
Our developer team built over 10 microservices, including customer information, availability, product data, ordering, and enriched product details. These seamlessly integrated with Servaali's ERP, pricing systems, and warehouses—Epicor, MEG, and PIM. A comprehensive monitoring system and client dashboard improved operational visibility and streamlined error tracking.
The transition to the new ordering system followed an iterative approach, starting with beta restaurants. Gradual adoption aligned with sales, marketing, internal communication, and support functions. The mobile ordering website served as a marketing channel, expanding its reach to new and existing customers.
My interface design balanced Servaali's branding while maintaining white-label versatility. The success of our design approach is evident in the beer-brewery service, which shares UX features with the wine and beverage app. By prioritizing timeless design principles, we future-proofed the interface for longevity.
